Lately I was provided with sizes of new murals projects, all the sizes was taken from engineering perspective. The measurements was on some detail on Millimeter others are on CM and or Square Meter and other by Meter.

so I thought it is a good Idea write a post on, How to Take Measurements for your Murals?

First consider the flowing 3 points:

1- Take all your measurements with only one unit: Centimeters or/& Inches

2- From an art perspective never take you measurements based on squares it will not help you to know the right measurements of your Artworks.

3- If you are creating the artwork on canvas in your studio and you want to glue it in the wall on the final location, don't follow just the measurements but take a real template of the space on paper.

Why taking measurements in square meters or square feet is wrong?

By theory any measurements by square it will give you the area Size but not the shape, for painting and art in general you need the shape of your final work. Here is an example with four square meters you can get unlimited of shapes.
